I thank you for visiting the official website of the Western States Sheriffs’ Association. I am truly humbled upon taking the Office of President of this distinguished Association. In my opinion, the office of Sheriff is one of the most important in this great land! You, the voting public, get to select the chief law enforcement officer for your county, thus ensuring that the standards and priorities for your communities are met and dealt with.

The Office of Sheriff has a long and distinguished history, which I believe, the Western States Sheriff’s understand the importance of, and strive to embody in their respective Offices.

The mission of the Western States Sheriffs´ Association is to assist Sheriffs and their

Offices with Federal and State legislative issues, address policy and procedural matters, develop guidelines to promote uniformity in matters that are important to Sheriffs of the Western United States and to work together to keep the Office of Sheriff strong.

Having just returned from our annual conference, I’ve been reinvigorated by talking with your Sheriffs. Every woman and man I met, that hold this distinguished Office is totally committed to their county, providing a safe environment for your families and ensuring that your needs and desires are done to the best of their ability. They are also committed to this organization to give a stronger voice that will be heard in Washington D.C. about legislation that affects all of the Western States and the important Office of Sheriff.

Your support of the Office of Sheriff is appreciated more than you realize. Please, let YOUR Sheriff know your concerns so he or she can continue to do what you, the citizens of the community, feel are most important to you.

Thank you,

Bruce W. Hartman
